Virgin Media have been in touch, and they have taken action on my concerns about junction boxes in Lee Green.
- This box on Kellerton Road has now been closed and locked.
- This box on Dorville Road has been temporarily secured, pending the fitting of a new door.
- This box on Lee High Road has now been closed and locked.
And finally, the box on Staplehurst Road at the junction with Leahurst Road (outside the DIY shop) has been locked, but will need replacing altogether as it’s been hit by a car.
Virgin Media have helpfully provided a phone number we can report cabinets to directly, and they’re happy for me to publish that here. It’s 0870 888 3116.
I’ll be calling to report the damaged box on the right, which is on Eastdown Park. If you know of a box do let Virgin Media know - or failing that, let me know and I’ll take it up.

Today’s neglected junction box is on Lee High Road, by the junction with Lampmead Road.
As you can see, another set of open doors.
No word from Virgin Media as yet - but keep the reports of open/damaged boxes coming in.

Today’s damaged junction box (brought to you by Virgin Media) is on Dorville Road, by the junction with Leyland Road.
As you can see, this junction box’s door isn’t just open - it’s not even attached to the box any more.
As I wrote yesterday, if you know of any other damaged boxes in Lee Green, do bring them to my attention using the comments facility or by emailing me direct.

Today I’ve written to Virgin Media’s head office demanding that they take action on the number of their junction boxes within Lee Green Ward which have been neglected and are open to the elements. Just in the course of walking round the ward this weekend I’ve discovered five such boxes - and I didn’t go out of my way to look for them.
I think these boxes with exposed wires, some of which apparently carry a 230 volt charge, are are an accident waiting to happen in an area with such a lot of family housing. They also make the whole area look uncared for, and I guess if they were tampered with they could interupt residents’ cable telephone, TV and internet connections.
These cabinets are Virgin Media’s responsibility. Hundreds of residents in Lee Green ward pay Virgin Media to provide services to them, and it’s time for Virgin to get their act together.
The one pictured is on Kellerton Road, near the junction with Manor Lane Terrace. As you can see from the label, this one has a 230 volt live charge.
Do you know of an open Virgin Media junction box in Lee Green? If so, let me know and I’ll get onto it. Use the comments box below or drop me a line.
