Northbrook School construction site

February 20th, 2010

Brightfield Site EntranceA number of residents on Brightfield Road have complained to us about lorries arriving to visit the Northbrook School construction site before 8am in the morning, in breech of the agreed delivery times.  In fairness to the site managers, Costain, they have erected signs at the end of the road to tell drivers not to do this, but obviously they have been ignored.

I raised this issue with the project team at a meeting with them on Thursday night.  They have kindly agreed to take this up with their suppliers to avoid this happening again.

Should this be a problem in future, this can be reported to Costain’s Project Manager, Clive Kraus, on 8297 1032 or e-mail clive.kraus {at} costain(.)com

Please do also let your local councillors know. We have a monthly meeting with the project team and can raise issues like this on residents’ behalf.

Finally, Costain are holding a drop-in session for local residents from 2pm on Friday 26th February – simply turn up at the Brightfield Road site entrance if there’s an issue you’d like to raise. I understand the intention is to continue these drop-in sessions once a fortnight at the same time.

After the snow…

January 16th, 2010

Sven Thames WaterNow the snow’s melted, the damage the freeze has caused to our roads and water mains is clear.  Sven and I spent some time today identifying pot holes, damged road surfaces and water leaks so we can report them to the Council or Thames Water as appropriate.   There are plenty about – including on Manor Park, Staplehurst Road, Fernbrook Road, Manor Lane, St Mildred’s Road, Upwood Road, Micheldever Road, Lee High Road and Burnt Ash Road.

Whilst we were on Burnt Ash Road, we bumped into a member of staff from Thames Water, who was attending to a leaking main outside number 84 Burnt Ash Road, which Sven had already reported to them.  It’s good to see these reports are being acted upon.

If you do know of a pothole or leaking water main that needs attention, do let us know.  Potholes in particular can be dangerous for some road users, especially cyclists and motorcyclists.

Alternatively, you can report them directly.

Is this the best-gritted stretch of pavement in Lewisham?

January 13th, 2010

Town Hall GritJust back from a meeting at the Town Hall and was amazed at the amount of grit they’ve found to spread just outside the Civic Suite at Lewisham Town Hall.  My colleague Cllr Phil Peake from Forest Hill Ward had also noticed, and posted the pic on the right via twitter earlier today.

If anyone knows a better-gritted stretch of pavement in Lewisham, I’d be surprised!

New local history board at the Lee Green crossroads

September 9th, 2009

sven-ribbonWhen I asked the other day for ideas for this year’s locality fund, I mentioned some of the projects we’ve supported in the past.   One of these came to fruition on Monday, when Sven unveiled the new local history board at the Lee Green crossroads.   The board was the idea of the Lee Manor Society, who have done a great job producing it and choosing the right spot for it.

The photo on the right shows Sven cutting the ribbon and one below shows the unveiled board.   If you get the chance, do wander over and learn something about the history of our area.p9081372
