Virgin media cabinets

From 2006 to 2010, I was a councillor for Lee Green ward in the London Borough of Lewisham. During that time, I blogged regularly and in 2009 I won the Tim Garden Award for the Best Blog by a Liberal Democrat Holding Public Office. My blog posts from my term of office are archived here in case they prove of use to former constituents, or to those who share my annoyance with faulty street furniture

mlt-boxI saw this cabinet on Manor Lane Terrace on my way home from work tonight – the door’s completely missing.  I’ll report it to Virgin Media on their 0870 888 3116 number.

This is the third cabinet I’ve reported in the last few weeks - the others were on Michedever Road and Trinity Close.  If you have a cabinet near you in need of attention, do let Virgin Media (or me!) know.

Do wonder whether it is Virgin engineers who do most damage – turn up without a key and then just angle grind the hinges off?? If it was a vandal pure and simple, why don’t they rip all the wires out after going to such trouble? All very odd.

It is odd. I think either the cabinet locks have a huge design flaw, or the engineers don’t bother locking up after they’ve used them. Either way, Virgin have a responsibility to sort this out given the amount of money they must make from local subscribers. Still no sign of a door on that cabinet when I walked home tonight.

Still no door on this box this morning. Have reported it again…

The cabinets are easily damaged and we struggle to close a lot of them. People often rip the doors off and then hide it so we can’t put it back on. we have some more modern cabinets which are much better, but it is always a battle to secure these cabinets.
