Hither Green East CPZ Extension – consultation results

From 2006 to 2010, I was a councillor for Lee Green ward in the London Borough of Lewisham. During that time, I blogged regularly and in 2009 I won the Tim Garden Award for the Best Blog by a Liberal Democrat Holding Public Office. My blog posts from my term of office are archived here in case they prove of use to former constituents, or to those who share my annoyance with faulty street furniture

The results of the consultation held back in November/December on extending the Hither Green East CPZ are now in.  You may remember that it was proposed to extend the existing zone ‘p’ CPZ into Manor Lane and Kellerton Road.

Residents were asked what they thought of the proposal and 58 surveys were returned (41% response rate).  Of the 58 respondents 42 (72%) were in favour of the proposal to extend the CPZ and 16 (28%) were against.

This CPZ will therefore be going ahead, subject to the results of the statutory consultation (that’s when the official notice appears in the paper and on lamposts etc)

This is a disgrace. I lived and grew up in this area until I married. My parents still live in Longhurst Road. They are both now elderly and my father disabled. I refuse to pay more money to visit them! I don’t have it! And I cannot find anywhere else to park within walking distance – although I also have athritus (but not too bad, yet!)
I work in Eltham and it would be best for us all if I called in after work 2/3 times a week – but the cpz lasts until 7pm – why. Lewisham says it;s to stop station parking. We all know station/commuters park in the mornings to go to work. The zone is only needed from 7 to say 11am. Obviously Lewisham see it as a money earner. If any one has to pay it should be the train users or the train companies – they are causing the situation by parking (to make their life easier and cheaper) but the residents foot the bill. This is so unfair.
